Hospital earns designation as a Blue Distinction
Center
St. Francis Hospital of Federal Way, one of the
leading providers of weight loss surgery in Washington, has been
designated as a 2007 Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric
Surgery by Premera Blue Cross and Regence BlueShield.
Blue Distinction recognizes programs that offer
the best practices and highest standards of care. Premera Blue
Cross and Regence Blue Shield are among the largest health
insurance companies in the Pacific Northwest.
Created by the BlueCross BlueShield Association
in 1991, the Blue Distinction Center program recognizes
hospitals and specialty centers across the United States for
excellence in providing patients with important information
about their care and for collaborating with providers to improve
quality, health outcomes and affordability. This benefits
patients by helping them make better-informed decisions about
their health care choices.
By meeting these requirements, Blue Distinction
Center facilities like St. Francis Hospital demonstrate better
outcomes and consistency of care for their patients. Bariatric
surgeries have been provided since 2001 at St. Francis Hospital.
Last year alone, 426 surgeries were performed at the hospital.
The 110-bed hospital is part of the Franciscan
Health System, which is ranked No. 8 on the Top 100 list of the
nation’s best performing, most efficient health organizations as
determined by the independent research firm Verispan.
In March, St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma –
also part of the Franciscan organization – was named a Blue
Distinction Center for Cardiac Care by Premera Blue Cross and
Regence BlueShield.

includes St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, St. Clare Hospital
